With bulk minerals traffic such an integral part of the port’s ongoing success, developments at the specialised Chrome Terminal materially affect the port’s future business.Located immediately behind Berths 6, 7, 8 and 9, which are dedicated to the handling of bulk chrome ore and ferrochrome, the Chrome Terminal is a purpose-built facility developed by operator, Maputo Port Development Company.Open slabs – with high walls to separate specific products – together with some smaller spaces, enable some 12.5 million tons per annum to be handled safely and efficiently. Extensive suppression systems support the optimisation and mitigate environmental impact from dust.A fully automated system manages the stockpiles and is monitored by controllers in the port’s Operations Room.
