Além de operar o Terminal de Cereais de Maputo, a Merec Industries SA é uma grande produtora de farelo de milho e farinha de trigo, massas, biscoitos e rações para Moçambique, com 10 unidades de produção localizadas na Matola, Beira e Nacala.MAPUTO & MATOLA CARGO TERMINALS 57 Maputo Grain TerminalWhether it is wheat, maize, soybeans, sorghum or more, the facilities of the international-class Maputo Grain Terminal ensure all types of grain transit through the Port of Maputo quickly and efficiently.Privately owned and operated by Merec Industries SA, the Maputo Grain Terminal offers integrated support and distribution services for grains, including vessel discharge (up to 8,000 tons per day), cleaning/fumigation, and dispatch from the silos to road transport.Grains arrive from many regions around the world – including Asia, Australia, Europe and the United States – and are discharged by truck to the complex’s five silos, which have a combined storage capacity of 25,000 tons. The facility then facilitates the transit of grains by road within Mozambique and also to Eswatini, South Africa and Zimbabwe. With volumes increasing, plans are being considered to add a further four silos, enabling the facility to handle an extra 100,000 tons annually. Expansion would take place within the terminal’s existing footprint and could also include rail connectivity. An enclosed automated conveyor system between the quayside and silos is also being considered, which would replace the current truck movements. Not only would this boost productivity but also support MPDC’s sustainability efforts. In addition to operating the Maputo Grain Terminal, Merec Industries SA is a major producer of maize meal and wheat flour, pasta, biscuits and animal feed for Mozambique, with 10 production units located in Matola, Beira and Nacala.HANDBOOK & DIRECTORY 2025 - 2026 • PORT OF MAPUTO
